Why: ANH is the only movie in which Artoo doesn't have any blinking lights on his dome. Also, in the DVD version of ESB, the “black and white R2-D2” problem was fixed, but I don’t know why they didn’t bother with ANH. He looks totally colorless when he’s in the back of Luke’s X-wing.
How: Make the light on the front of Artoo's dome blink red and blue and the one on the back blink yellow and green like in the other movies. Then change his colors to blue in the X-wing shots, the same way it was done in ESB.
