Why: The way Vader suddenly starts kneeling on the ground for no apparent reason during his duel with Luke looks like he was purposely getting into position to have his hand cut off.
If he is to go down, there has to be a good reason. I mean this is maybe the most significant point in the whole saga.
How: An idea is to show Luke hitting the control panel on Vader’s suit with his lightsaber. You can show the control panel giving out sparks. This action makes Vader’s suit depressurize or something, causing him to momentarily lose his energy and his balance and makes him fall to the floor.
